Tesoro Verde Lodge…

Building up a dream!

Four years ago, in 1998, a group of women of  Los Planes community, which was founded 40 years ago and is formed by 49 families, got together with the idea of improving our own life standard.  One of those afternoons at Los Planes community, Xenia Jiménez and Mayra Salazar were sitting in front of the town’s “Casona”, which used to be the National Park’s Guard House.  They were dreaming about a more promising future for the community,  in which they could be self-supporting, while living in harmony with nature.   That afternoon they thought of the idea of transforming the “casona” into an eco-tourism lodge, that would give new opportunities to the community, and at the same time, would promote the conservation of the natural beauties that surround the place.  After an intense work of a group of dreamers, today Tesoro Verde Association has 12 ha. of protected forest, with signaled trails and the beautiful Tesoro Verde Lodge, which stands as jewel in the middle of Los Planes community.  Tesoro Verde is a group of various local families, that together are contributing to the conservation of the forest, |through environmental education programs organized for and with our neighbors.  We also contribute to this cause through our vigilance programs that look after the protection of the forest, against undiscriminating hunting and illegal wood exploitation.

Tesoro Verde borders Corcovado National Park: Great Mountains, Wilderness & Seascapes

Narrow dirt roads traversing steep cliffs that drop off the breezy coastal lowlands, strings of deserted beaches accessible only by foot or boat – the geography and exuberance of the vast Southern Zone make it one of Costa Rica’s most exciting and untouched regions for travel, adventure and soul-searching.

The Península de Osa reaches out of southwestern Costa Rica into the Pacific Ocean. Its large virgin rainforests receive 4000 millimeters of precipitation a year. Due to incredible wealth of tropical flora and fauna, scientists urged the creation of a national park to protect the peninsula, and in 1975, 108,022 acres in its western corner were declared Corcovado National Park. Corcovado contains eight unique habitats ranging from mountain forest to swamp. In the park, scientists have identified at least 500 species of trees, 285 birds, 139 mammals, 116 amphibians and reptiles and 16 freshwater fishes.

The main highlights in this area are:

·        The national parks and reserves: Corcovado National, Isla del Caño, Tesoro Verde, among others.

·        Great jungle trails

·        Unique jungle lodges, in communion with nature

·        Spectacular beaches

·        Exotic flora and fauna

·        Snorkeling, fishing
